February Update

*UPDATE: The BWG March Meeting has been moved from the 1st to the 15th!*

The Belfast Writers’ Group committee met together in the past week for our Anual General Meeting (AGM) and, as such, we have lots of exciting things planned for the rest of 2018. I can’t tell you about them yet, but watch this space.

Our March meeting is on Thursday, the 1st of the month. You can find the Facebook event here.

Fractured Fairytales

At our January meeting, attendees had a go at writing fairytales – with a twist. Based off a prompt fully explained here, we wrote down the names of two unrelated fairytale characters, a modern saying, a famous place, and a problem. Then we passed along those specifics to someone else in the group and asked them to make up a story.

The resulting pieces of flash fiction (and a poem!) are now published here on the Belfast Writers’ Group website. Click the authors’ names below to read.

January Meeting

I know it’s a little short notice, but details of our January meeting have been confirmed for Thursday. See the Facebook event here for more info or to RSVP.

Cancellation

Just a quick note to say, tonight’s meeting has been cancelled due to a family bereavement of one of the organisers. Sorry for the short notice. I hope it doesn’t cause anyone too much inconvenience.

Details of our meetings for the new year to follow.

National Novel Writing Month is now over for another year, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came along to group to write with us during November.

  • NaNo Week 4 Write In: Thursday 23rd
  • NaNo Week 5 Write In: Thursday 30th
  • December Meeting: Thursday 7th

Thank You!

Before I say anything else, I would like to thank everyone who came along to our recent book launch. It was a great night for all involved, and all the better for those who shared it with us.

The anthologies are now available to buy in paperback and in ePub formats from Lulu, and will hopefully be on sale on Amazon soon.

In the meantime, November has started so we’re officially into National Novel Writing Month. Instead of our standard monthly meeting, Belfast Writers’ Group are meeting together weekly, with the first ‘write in’ happening tomorrow – Thursday 2nd, 7.30 to 9.30pm at Cregagh Youth and Community Centre.

I’ll post Facebook events for weeks 2 – 5 here in a few days.

Happy writing, and good luck to everyone who’s attempting to draft a novel this month!

Weekly Write Ins for NaNoWriMo

November, in case you didn’t know, is National Novel Writing Month during which thousands of people the world over try and and write 50,000 words over the course of 30 days.

Various Belfast Writers’ Group members have attempted this over the years – some with more success than others – and this year we’re trying again.

For 2017’s NaNoWriMo there will be weekly ‘write ins’ in which you can come along for two hours each week to meet up with fellow wrimos, discuss how your project is going and, well, write.

I’ve put up a Facebook event for Week One already, which you can find here. For future updates, please follow our Facebook page.
