Update – February 2020

Off the back of our recent AGM, there are two main things to report:

  1. Due to the large (frankly, unsustainable) number of people at recent meetings, we unfortunately have to close to new members for the foreseeable future. We’re really thankful to everyone who came along last year, and are sorry to disappoint anyone with this news.
  2. After being stalled for a very long time, progress is being made with our third anthology again. We expect publication to happen Summer 2020.

Thank you so much to everyone who has been bearing with us. More details soon!

October Meeting CANCELLED

Sorry, everyone, but due to a number of members not being able to make it and the incoming storm, tonight’s meeting has been cancelled. Please spread the word.

BWG does NaNoWriMo 2018

November is National Novel Writing Month, also known as NaNoWriMo. The traditional goal, if you sign up, is to complete the first draft of a novel (50,000 words) in thirty days.

During the month, you’re invited to join Belfast Writers’ Group for weekly meetings to get your word count up.

Want to spend the month writing without trying for the challenge? By all means, still join us.

Only able to join us for one or two meetings, not the whole lot? That’s fine! We are a zero-pressure group.

You’ll just need something to write with (pen/paper/laptop) and a £1 donation towards room hire. Tea and coffee will be provided. Free parking and WiFi available.

Dates of Our November Meetings:

Venue: Cregagh Youth & Community Centre (opposite Kingspan Ulster Rugby Stadium).

Getting Back To It

After having to cancel the workshop we planned to offer in June, and our regular meeting in July, things are all set to be up and running again soon. Our next meeting is Thursday, 2nd August, 7.30-9.30pm.

Full details here.

Announcement: June Meetings

In June meeting is on Thursday 7th, 7.30-9.30pm at Cregagh Youth & Community Centre. Free Wifi and parking is available. We ask for a £1 donation towards room hire and refreshments – tea and or coffee provided.

Also in June is our second workshop. It’s going to be Social Media for Authors and Poets lead by Ellie Rose McKee and will be held on Tuesday 19th, 7-9pm in the Robinson Room at the International Youth Hostel, Belfast (attendees to meet in the hostel cafe).

There are a maximum of fifteen places available for a fee of £4 each – food and/or drink to be purchased separately on the day. Booking can be made via our Facebook Group. If you’re already a member, click here for full details including a payment link. And if not, click here to join.

Not on Facebook at all but still want to book in for the workshop? Send us a message.

Workshops!

*UPDATE: All places for April’s workshop are now booked!*

April has come around really fast, after Spring seemingly taking an age to arrive. Now that it’s here, we can reveal one piece of news that we teased in our previous blog post, and that is: we’re going to be hosting a series of semi-regular workshops alongside our regular meetings.

Here’s the plan –

Once a month, on the first Thursday of the month, we’re going to have our general get together for tea, feedback, and writing prompts.

Then, in the middle of the month, we will have either a social or a workshop, alternating turns i.e. a workshop this month, then a social next month, a workshop the month after that, and so on.

Our main April meeting is on Thursday (the 5th) from 7.30-9.30pm at our regular venue, Cregagh Youth and Community Centre, and our April Workshop is Tuesday the 17th, 7-9pm in a meeting room at the International Youth Hostel in Belfast. Full details, including a booking link, is available via our Facebook Group here.

We’d love to see you there!

February Update

*UPDATE: The BWG March Meeting has been moved from the 1st to the 15th!*

The Belfast Writers’ Group committee met together in the past week for our Anual General Meeting (AGM) and, as such, we have lots of exciting things planned for the rest of 2018. I can’t tell you about them yet, but watch this space.

Our March meeting is on Thursday, the 1st of the month. You can find the Facebook event here.

January Meeting

I know it’s a little short notice, but details of our January meeting have been confirmed for Thursday. See the Facebook event here for more info or to RSVP.

Cancellation

Just a quick note to say, tonight’s meeting has been cancelled due to a family bereavement of one of the organisers. Sorry for the short notice. I hope it doesn’t cause anyone too much inconvenience.

Details of our meetings for the new year to follow.

Happy December!

National Novel Writing Month is now over for another year, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came along to group to write with us during November.

Hopefully we’ll see you at our December meeting!
